KMnO4 is a dark purple crystal at room temperature. It is soluble in water. Its melting point is 240 ̊C (464 ̊F), density 2.7 g/cm3. KMnO4 is a strong oxidizing agent. It is widely used for prevent infection, water purification etc.

Example Reactions:
• K + Mn + 2O2 = KMnO4
• KMnO4 + 5FeCl2 + 8HCl = MnCl2 + 5FeCl3 + 4H2O + KCl
• KMnO4 + H2O2 = KO2 + H2MnO4
• 4H2SO4 + KMnO4 + 5K4Fe(CN)6 = 5K3Fe(CN)6 + MnSO4 + 3K2SO4 + 4H2O
• HMnO4 + KOH = KMnO4 + H2O
• KMnO4 + LiOH = KOH + LiMnO4
• NaHCO3 + KMnO4 = NaMnO4 + KHCO3
• KMnO4 + 8HCl = KCl + MnCl3 + 4H2O + 2Cl2
• 5NO2 + H2O + KMnO4 = 2HNO3 + Mn(NO3)2 + KNO3
