HCl is a colorless gas at room temperature. Its melting point is -114.22 ̊C (-173.596 ̊F), boiling point -85.05 ̊C (-121.09 ̊F). HCl is toxic. HCl in water forms hydrochloric acid. The hydrochloric acid is a very strong acid, and very corrosive.

Example Reactions:
• NaOH + HCl = NaCl + H2O
• NH3 + HCl = NH4Cl
• HCl + NaHCO3 = H2O + CO2 + NaCl
• HCl + AgNO3 = AgCl + HNO3
• HCl + KOH = H2O + KCl
• C5H12O + HCl = C5H11Cl + H2O
• C2H6 + Cl2 = C2H5Cl + HCl
• NaCl + HNO3 = NaNO3 + HCl
• CH4 + Cl2 = CH3Cl + HCl
• H2O + NH4Cl = HCl + NH4OH
