Ag2S is a black crystal at room temperature, density 7.23 g/cm3, melting point 825 C. It is insoluble in water, but soluble in strong acids, including nitric acid.

Ag2S example reactions:
• Na2S + 2AgNO3 = 2NaNO3 + Ag2S
• Ag2S + HNO3 = AgNO3 + H2O + NO + S
